When I first heard of The Gum Ball Music Festival, I was only relating it to one thing: gumballs - hence why I began drawing such images on the chalkboard in anticipation...

Little did I know until arriving - somewhere in The Hunter Valley, New South Whales - this music festival was a Gum Ball - as in being surrounding by Australian native gum trees and having a BALL

I wasn’t the only person to have made such a correlation

So... amongst the Gum trees we set up camp...

...and listened to music.

As to be expected, a menagerie of people gathered.

Eight years ago, 29 year old Matt Johnston, an enthusiastic young muso, dreamt up the concept of The Gum Ball Festival. The brief was simple, bring people and live music together outdoors in a natural environment and do it without the hassles that were being seen at other festivals at the time. Without too much thought, he quite simply just woke up and took it on.

And for whatever reason, whether it was through pure passion or stupidity, Matt has stuck to his guns, continuing to offer the popular options such as BYO, free camping and quality live bands. Today he reveals a pure example of what a little hard work and perseverance can do, with the good word certainly spreading on this feel good laid back festival for the people.

...and another year comes to a close - but my friends and I reckon that we’ll be back under those Gum trees again...

The music ends with a silent disco...
